The Police on Wednesday arraigned six men before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for alleged robbery and causing breach of peace in Apapa.
The six men are Steven Taiwo, Kadiri Jimoh, Kehinde Lasisi, Bolaji Ahmed, Victor Ekwili and Adeyemi Joshua. They are facing a nine-count charge bothering on robbery, conspiracy, assault, possession of dangerous weapons and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 14, 2018 at about 12:15am at Cemetery Area of Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together to have in their possession cutlass, knives and other dangerous weapons for the purpose of robbery,” Ekpo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants assaulted one Afeez Amusa with cutlass and damaged his Suzuki vehicle bus registration number AA 84 HER windscreen valued at N50,000.
Ekpo added that the defendants also assaulted one Kehinde Afolabi with cutlass and inflicted injury on his head and damaged his power bike valued at N200,000.
The prosecutor further said that the defendants assaulted the police officers who were drafted to the scene by throwing stones at them.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 299, 330(b), 45(2), 51, 173 and 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State
Government. One of the sureties must be related to each defendant by blood.
He adjourned the case till July 12, 2018 for mention.
