Court sentences stowaway

The Apapa Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced a 27-year-old motorcyclist, Musa Mohammed, to three days community service for riding his motorcycle within the port premises without permission.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Alaka, acknowledged the plea of the Defence Counsel, Aliu M. Ishola, on behalf of the convict to be given a lenient sentence.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen, gave the facts before the court that the accused was arrested on January 30 at about 5pm near PTML terminal, Tin Can Island Port for unlawfully disobeying the order of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) by riding his Bajaj motorcycle with registration number DBD 562 VV within the port premises without permission and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 123(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
