An Apapa Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos on Wednesday slammed a one-month imprisonment sentence on three stowaways after they pleaded guilty to the charges filed against them.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Ganiyu Tiamiyu.

The stowaways are Christian Chukwu (38), Joseph Obasi Odinaka (26) and Christian Happy (28). They were convicted on a two-count charge of conspiracy and boarding a ship without purchasing ticket.

The port prosecutor, Inspector Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 11, 2019 at Snake Island, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together without purchasing ticket or being a passenger of a ship entered “MV CITRON” with the intention of traveling to Europe,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 412 and 400 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
