An Apapa Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos on Monday rejected the plea to grant four suspected armed robbers liberal bail terms as requested by the Defence Counsel.
The suspected four armed robbers namely, Omega Lucky (17), Kudus Rafau (18), Segun Olaitan (23) and Yahasu Basith (13), were on Monday arraigned for allegedly robbing people of phones and a total cash sum of N102,500 in Lagos.
The defendants are facing a six-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery, assault, threat and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 21, 23 and 25, 2019 at about 6am at Olayinka Street, Ajegunle, Lagos.
“The defendants conspired with others at large by arming themselves with cutlasses and offensive weapons and robbed one Tecno phone valued at N22,500 and cash sum of N100,000 property of one Akandi Lukman,” Ejembi said.
The prosecutor also said the defendants robbed one Nokia phone valued at N14,500 and cash sum of N2,500 property of one Salami Abdulsalami.
Ejembi added that the defendants unlawfully inflicted wound on one Salami Abdulsalami on his left leg.
He also said that the defendants threatened violence with cutlasses and conducted themselves in a disorderly manner on the street which they could not give account of their mission.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 297(1)(2)(a), 246(a)(b), 56(a)(d)(2) and 168(1)(d)(g)(h) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them.
Magistrate O.M Ajayi declined the plea for lenient bail and ordered that the duplicate of the file be transferred to Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
She adjourned the case till September 26, 2019 for mention.
