Workers of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) have not been paid since the beginning of this year, and are being owed six months salary.
This information came to the fore on Thursday when a delegation of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) led by the President-General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, paid a courtesy visit to the council.
A statement made available to SHIPS & PORTS by MWUN spokesman, John Ikemefuna, said during the visit, the union engaged with the leadership of CRFFN on how to resolve the various challenges facing the council.
The acting Registrar of CRFFN, Uromta Chinyere, was quoted as saying that the council desires to build a strong relationship with MWUN to improve on its fortunes. She said CRFFN is affiliated to the Shipping, Clearing and Forwarding Agencies Workers branch of the union.
The MWUN President-General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju thanked the Registrar for her resilience and commitment to duty and promised to get involved in finding solutions to the numerous challenges facing the council.
He promised to engage with the government and other necessary revenue generating agencies and stakeholders in the maritime sector.
He noted that CRFFN has been removed from the usual annual budgetry allocations of the Federal Government, “which had practically paralysed all functions of the regulatory body.”
