Customs promotes 1,561 junior officers

The Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali has approved the promotion of 1,561 junior officers to various ranks.

According to a statement by the acting Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Joseph Attah at the weekend, the promotion was based on the performances of the personnel at the 2016 promotion examination, annual performance evaluation scores, seniority and available vacancies at various ranks.

The statement said the promotion was released after a thorough vetting to ensure strict adherence to public service promotion guidelines.

A breakdown of the promotion exercise shows that 45 officers of the rank of Assistant Inspector of Customs have been promoted to Inspector of Customs while 563 Customs Assistant I were promoted to Senior Customs Assistant.

650 Customs Assistant II were promoted to Customs Assistant I; 5 Senior Customs Assistant to Chief Customs Assistant and 298 Customs Assistant III promoted to Customs Assistant II

Attah said 35 other junior personnel were upgraded as a result of additional qualifications.

While congratulating the affected officers, the Customs CG urged them to see their promotions as a call to higher duties especially at this time when much is expected from the NCS.

The statement quoted him as saying that all affected officers and men of the Service must work hard to secure the borders as well as collect maximum revenue for the government to meet the yearnings of Nigerians.
