Driver allegedly steals cash, truck parts

India arrests Nigerian, four others with 120g of drug

 

A 36-year-old truck driver, Abdullahi Hassan, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N152,000 cash and truck parts at Amuwo-Odofin.

Hassan is facing a three-count charge of false pretence, stealing and breach of peace. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Francisca Job, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 4, 2020 at about 5pm at Amuwo-Odofin.

“The defendant obtained the sum of N152,000 from one Benjamin Nnaji under the pretence to purchase two new tyres for his truck, a representation he knew to be false.

“The defendant stole the sum of N152,000, two spare tyres, two realms and two batteries. All valued at N200,000 making a total of N352,000 property of Benjamin Nnaji.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by abandoning one truck with registration number EKY 668 XY in his possession,” Job said.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 315 (a & b), 287(7) and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate A.I Alaka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till March 17, 2020 for mention.
