The Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris, on yesterday urged the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, to redouble its efforts toward enhanced transport system in Nigeria.
The monarch made the call when the newly-appointed members of the Institute’s Governing Council led by its Chairman, Prince Olusola Akanmode, paid him a courtesy call in his palace in Zaria, Kaduna State.
He commended President Jonathan for putting the NITT Governing Council in place and for appointing a traditional title holder from Zazzau Emirate as a member of the council.
According to him, prior to the establishment of the institute, the nation had expended huge sum of money to train Nigerians on transport technology abroad.
Idris thanked the council members for the visit and urged them to apply their wealth of experience in adding value and promoting the ideals of the institute.
The Emir used the occasion to condole with the board chairman over the death of his mother and enjoined him to take solace in God, being the giver and the taker of life.
Responding, Akanmode described transport as key to economic development and social interaction.
He thanked the emir for his contributions to the advancement of the institute and urged him not to relent in his efforts.
“I have been informed that the strategically-positioned land on which the NITT is situated was donated by your royal highness. We remain grateful to your majesty and also see your majesty as the pillar behind NITT’s success. I want to appeal to the Emir not to shorten his hands of assistance and cooperation to the institute as well as the council members at this crucial time of service to the nation,” he said.
He assured that the members of the governing council, which cut across various spheres of human endeavour, would do their best to take the institute to the next level.
Members of the NITT council, drawn from the Nigerian Army, NNPC, Aviation, Education and National Planning Commission were in Zaria for their maiden meeting.
