Immediate past National President, Chartered Institute of Logistitcs and Transport (CILT) Nigeria, Emeritus Professor Michael Olanrewaju Filani, is dead.
A Professor of Transport Planning and Development, Filani died on Sunday while watching the Nigeria/Ethiopia World Cup qualifying match.
The deceased, who was a former deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), slumped and died while watching the match at his Oluyole Extension home in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He hailed from Ikole-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
National Executive Director of CILT Nigeria, Mr. Francis Ehiguese, who confirmed Filani’s death to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY, described him as an amiable and humble person.
“Without him, CILT would probably have died. All the progress we made over the past few years would not have been possible without his support and commitment,” Ehiguese said.
Ehiguese described the deceased as not only a former President of CILT Nigeria but “a personal friend of mine.”
Filani served as President of CILT Nigeria from 2006 to 2012. He had over 32 years experience in teaching and research.
In the last 37 years, he served in various capacities within and outside the University of Ibadan. He was aged 74 years.
In June 2011, Filani called on the government of Lagos State to urgently introduce the railway system that could move thousands of people at a time as a means of addressing transportation problem in the metropolis.
