EXCLUSIVE: Customs bans officers from passing nights in offices

The PTML Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has banned its operatives from using their offices as homes.

Customs Area Controller of the command, Compt. Ali Mahmud Ibrahim expressed displeasure over intelligence reports that some officers and non-officers of the service turned their offices into bedrooms and kitchens after closing hours.

In an internal memo, copy of which was obtained exclusively by SHIPS & PORTS, Ibrahim said the act has caused “serious breach of the security architecture put in place by the command”.

The CAC said any person caught passing the night in office or wandering around the premises after closing hours will be arrested and prosecuted.

“Every person who in any public place conducts himself in a manner likely to cause as breach of peace shall be deemed idle and disorderly person and may be arrested without warrant and are guilty of a simple offence and liable to imprisonment,” the memo read.
