Fake car owner docked in Apapa for allegedly stealing N440,000

A 38-year-old man, identified as Chukwunonso Anigbogu, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly claiming to be the owner of a Golf 4 car and stealing N440,000 from one Obinna Okeke in Lagos.

Anigbogu is facing a two-count charge bordering on false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 14, 2018 at about 9:30am at Navy Town Ojo, Satellite Town, Lagos.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate said the sureties must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government and their bank account statements. 

She adjourned the case till May 7, 2019 for mention.
