Female visa agent docked for stealing N1.65m

A 39-year-old female visa agent, Onyiuke Ada, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N1.65 million under the pretence of procuring European visa in Lagos.

Ada is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in February and July 2019 at Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired with one other at large with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N1,650,000 from one Ekechukwu Samuel Obioma, with pretence to procure European visa, a representation she knew to be false,” Salami said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate L.O Kazeem granted her bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till October 21, 2019 for mention.
