Man assaults policewoman on traffic control duty

A 28-year-old man, identified as George Olalekan, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting a female police inspector on traffic control duty in Lagos.

Olalekan is facing a one-count charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 9, 2019 at about 8:45am at the front gate of Amukoko Police Station, Lagos.

“The defendant did unlawfully assaulted one woman inspector, Ezenwa Rose, who is on traffic control duty, by pushing her and using abusive words on her,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 174(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Iyabo Ayilara granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The surety is required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till October 24, 2019 for mention.
