Fisherman jailed one month for stealing car side mirror

An Apapa Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos, on Monday sentenced a 39-year-old former fisherman, Omowale Annes, to one month in Kirikiri Prison for stealing Lexus car side mirror and damaging the two door handles in Apapa.

Annes, who claimed to go into stealing as a result of loss of fishing job, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and damaging the car.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 23, 2020 at about 11:45am at Redeemed Church GRA, Marine Road, Apapa.

“The defendant stole Lexus car side mirror and also damaged the two handles of the door,” Aigbokhan said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Upon the guilty plea by the defendant, Magistrate O.M Ajayi sentenced the accused to one month in Kirikiri Prison.
