Woman, four men plead guilty to stowaway

Fake travel agent docked for N265,000 visa fraud

A 27-year-old woman, Mercy Osayomwanbor and four men, Chinerem Mmadugagwu (35), Osasu Otakhor (20), Onikan Sunday (21) and Henry Amuzie (20), on Monday pleaded guilty to stowaway before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court.

The five persons are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and entering a vessel without purchasing ticket.

The prosecutor, Inspector Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 29, 2020 at about 4pm at Tin Can Island, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together to enter MT IDI Vessel without purchasing ticket or being a passenger with the intention of traveling to Europe,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 412 and 400 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate Olorunfemi Oluwatope adjourned the matter till February 25, 2020 for facts and sentence.
