FOU Zone ‘A’ records N2bn seizures in Q1

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service said it recorded N2.05 billionn worth of seizures in the first quarter of 2017.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the unit, Jerome Attah at the weekend said the feat was as a result of intensified efforts of its anti-smuggling operations.

He said the unit also recovered the sum of N1 billion from import duty underpayments and demand notices.

Among the 293 different seizures recorded were foreign parboiled rice, frozen poultry products, vegetable oil, smuggled vehicles, Indian hemp, arms, fake pharmaceutical/medicaments and various general merchandise.

Others are new and used textile materials, new and used foot wears, mosquito insecticide, spaghetti, soap, detergents, toiletries, used tyres, compressors and hard drugs among others.
