Three siblings and other person died on Sunday in a boat mishap in Lagos.
The incident was as a result of high current that swept the boat away before capsizing.
Members of the Lagos House of Assembly, on Monday, confirmed the incident while commiserating with the affected families.
Representative of Kosofe Constituency 11, Femi Saheed, on raising a matter of urgent public importance on the incident, described it as a tragic one which ought not to repeat itself.
Saheed said, “Four people lost their lives with three of the dead being from the same family. It is a tragedy we must not experience again. We should call on the government to direct all relevant agencies including the Lagos State Ministries of Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, Waterways Authority, the Environment, to make sure drainages and canals are cleared especially now that the river banks are high, so water can flow freely.”
He urged the Ministry of Information and Strategy to create awareness on the use of life jackets and the side effects of overloading of boats.
