Four truck drivers were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting police officers with broken bottles in Apapa.
The truck drivers are Ajala Mulaila (37), Akinmoladu Femi (29), Ishola Aliu (29) and Mumuni Akanji (30). They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 23, 2019 at about 1:45pm at Mr Biggs Junction, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired with others at large to unlawfully assault one Sergeant Yemi Ikudansi, Onoja Anthony, Inspector Ahmed Idris, and Sergeant Andy Bako with broken bottles.
“They conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by constituting nuisance at Mr Biggs Junction, Apapa,” Esebamen said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 171(2c) and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Magistrate A.A Alaka granted them N50,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till October 30, 2019 for mention.
