Four visa agents were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding one Obiwuru-Chukwuka of N3.9 million to secure Canadian visa and other vital documents.
The defendants are Jonny Onomakpome (37), Emmanuel Okwara Kalu (51), Godson Ifeanyi (43) and Mbachi Ifeanyi (43). They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud, false pretense and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometimes in March 2019 at Satellite Town, Lagos.
“The defendants conspired with others at large with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N3.9 million through Access Bank account number0107994865 Jonny Onomakpome from one Obiwuru-Chukwuka with pretence of using same to secure Canadian visa and other vital documents, knowing same to be false,” Salami said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants stole the sum of N3.9 million property of one Obiwuru-Chukwuka.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314(1)(a) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate O.A Erinle granted them N500,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till September 3, 2019 for mention.
