A 36-year-old generator dealer, Emmanuel Chuks, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding one Awhin Eguono Pleasure by selling a bad 22KV generator to him for N950,000 in Apapa.
Chuks is facing a four-count charge of fraud, conspiracy, false pretence and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 4, 2019 at about 9am at No 10, Alhaji Kareem Street, Olodi-Apapa.
“The defendant fraudulently cheat one Awhin Eguono Pleasure by collecting the sum of N950,000 from him and sold a bad 22KV generator to him.
“The defendant conspired together with one other at large to commit felony and obtaining the sum of N64,000 from one Awhin Eguono Pleasure with the pretence to repair his 22KV generator which he did not repair, a representation which he knew to be false.
“The defendant stole the sum of N64,000 property of one Awhin Eguono Pleasure,” Babatope said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 323, 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate R.E Ojudun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till April 2, 2020 for mention.
