The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing & Forwarding Agencies (SSASCFA) has condemned in strong terms a forceful invasion of five shipping agencies by armed security operatives and officials of the Federal Competition and Consumers Protection Commission (FCCPC) on Monday, October 18.
The affected shipping agencies are COSCO, Hull Blyth, CMA CGM, Lagos and Niger Shipping Agency Ltd (LANSAL) and Hapag Lloyd.
However, at a media briefing on Wednesday, the President of SSASCFA, Harrison Ugochukwu Asonye, said officials of the Federal Competition and Consumers Protection Commission stormed the shipping agencies with heavily armed security men without prior notice.
“The invasion is a threat to our members’ lives. Two of our members fainted and were rushed to the hospitals owing to the commando style the commission stormed some shipping companies with armed men.
“The personal gadgets of clearing agents who came to carry out their lawful duties were ceased.”
The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) had earlier condemned the invasion.
