There has been no contact made with the Singapore-registered tanker Success 9 believed to have been hijacked by pirates on April 10 in the Gulf of Guinea.
The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), which administers the Singapore Registry of Ships, said that the owner of the Success 9 had updated the authority that it had still been unable to contact the vessel.
“Apart from the Monrovia Regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, MPA has reached out to the other authorities in the region, including the Ivory Coast and the Ghana authorities for assistance. The Ivory Coast authorities have deployed their air and sea assets to the vicinity of the last known position of the vessel,” the MPA said in a statement.
The 6,135 dwt chemical tanker was reported to have been boarded by pirates at around 1400hrs (UTC) on last Monday about 300 nautical miles off the coast of Abidjan, Cote d’lvoire.
According to the Singapore, authorities the vessel has 20 crew onboard of various nationalities including one Singapore citizen.
The 2003-built tanker is managed Fortune Shp Management Pte Ltd and owned by HS Ocean Pte Ltd. Fortune Ship Management is part of the Hai Soon Group, a Singapore bunkering company and shipowner.
