The Lagos Pilotage District (LPD) is clearly in a frenzy of imports activities, going by the current shipping list made available by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
There are 93 vessels on the list, with vehicular cargoes, containerised cargoes and refined petroleum products topping the imports.
Other items mentioned are generalised cargo, frozen fish, bulk wheat, bulk sugar, bulk salt, bulk fertiliser, steel products and patrol boat.
A total of 6,675 vehicles, including new and used, would be delivered by 17 of the vessels.
Similarly, 31 out of the 93 vessels are delivering various cargoes stuffed in 13,960 units of forty-foot containers. 23 merchant tankers are bearing a total of 535,609 metric tonnes of various refined petroleum products, including premium motor spirit (PMS), commonly called petrol; automotive gas oil (AGO) or diesel, and dual purpose kerosene (DP, which serves both in domestic use and as aviation fuel.
The petrol is ferried by 14 of the merchant tankers, and the quantity is 482,109 metric tonnes.
There are four merchant tankers delivering 28,500 metric tonnes of diesel cargo.
25,000 metric tonnes of kerosene is borne by five of the 23 merchant tankers.
While 913 metric tonnes of generalised cargo is borne by the vessel MV Fany, five vessels have a total of 11040.02 metric tonnes of frozen fish; the MV Castle Island, 185,000 metric tonnes of bulk salt, and MV Desert Oasis with unspecified quantity of bulk sugar has been recorded as “shifted.”
While two vessels reportedly bear 21,264 metric tonnes of steel products, 62539.92 metric tones of bulk fertiliser is being ferried by three others, while three other vessels have a total of 535609 metric tonnes of bulk wheat.
