Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, has lamented Nigeria’s continued inability to refine its crude oil, describing it as “shameful”.

“That ultimately will be the solution,” he said.

Kachikwu made the disclosure while speaking at an investigative public hearing on the current scarcity of petrol on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) said state oil company, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) does not have the capacity to be sole importer and distributor of petrol.

Director of DPR, Mordecai Ladan, in his presentation at the hearing said, “‎NNPC is the sole importer and almost the sole distributor of the commodity.

“NNPC cannot do it alone.”
