A 23-year-old man, identified as Samuel Olapade, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting one Hassan Jamiu, a member of Neighbourhood Safety Corps in Apapa.
Olapade is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 17, 2019 at about 1pm at Oyedeji Street, Ajegunle.
“The defendant conspired together with one other at large to assault one Hassan Jamiu by giving him fist blows all over his body.
“He also stole Tecno handset valued at N15,000, a computer wrist watch valued at N2,500 property of one Hassan Jamiu,” Aigbokhan said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant maliciously tore the uniform of one Hassan Jamiu, a member of Neighbourhood Safety Corps attached to Ifelodun Local Council Development Area.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 174(b), 280 and 339 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Remilekun Ojudun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of two years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till July 17, 2019 for mention.
