Man charged in Apapa for stealing diesel

India arrests Nigerian, four others with 120g of drug

A 25-year-old man, identified as Anigala Chukwudi, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing stealing diesel at a hotel in Lagos.

Chukwudi is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 5, 2019 at about 8am at Premier Hotel, aka 3-1 hotel, situated at Oluti along Old Ojo Road, Lagos.

“The defendant stole the following items; diesel, turbo charger, one tapping valve, valve cover, six pistons and a bag containing kick starter. Total value of stolen items worth N160,000 property of Premier Hotel,” Babatope said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate Olukayode Kadiri granted him N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

The surety must be a parent of the defendant and is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till November 13, 2019 for mention.
