Truck drivers allegedly assault police officers in Apapa

Two truck drivers, Oladimeji Lukeman (38) and Sarumi Ajibola (32), were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting two police officers at Kirikiri Town, Apapa.

The duo is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on October 31, 2019 at about 2:45am at V-Junction inward Kirikiri Town, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together to unlawfully assault one Inspector Abah Philip and Inspector Akindoyin Isaac attached to MTD section of Kirikiri Police Division while performing their lawful duty by pushing and threatening them with iron objects and instigating other members of the public against them,” Babatope said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate Olukayode Kadiri granted them N100,000 bail with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till November 13, 2019 for mention.
