A 30-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel David, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having in his possession a locally made pistol.
David is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of pistol.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 7, 2019 at about 8:30am along Old Ojo Road, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to unlawfully have in his possession a locally made pistol with 16 expended cartridges, knowing same to have been unlawfully possessed,” Tedunjaye said.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 412 and 330(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate B.M Amore granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must be an official of government not lower than Grade Level 6.
He adjourned the matter till February 28, 2019 for mention.
