A 28-year-old man, Uhiene Adukwu, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining a N200,000 loan to purchase a motorcycle by false pretence.
Adukwu is facing a two-count charge of false pretence and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 13, 2019 at about 11:30am at No 315, Old Ojo Road, Kuje-Amuwo, Lagos.
“The defendant obtained the cash sum of N200,000 from one Edeh Chioma with the pretence of buying her motorcycle, a representation which he knew to be false,” Babatope said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by refusing to pick his phone calls and changing address which he used as collateral.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Enitan Ojudun granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till September 3, 2019 for mention.
