A 30-year-old man, identified as Vongjen Sunday John, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing one international passport, phone and other items in Apapa.
John is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault and stealing.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 12, 2019 at about 11am at No 27 Frank Street, Agboju, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others to assault one Ndubuisi Joshua and Ndubuisi Ebube by using wire and fist blows with plank to beat them and inflicted injuries on their bodies,” Ekundayo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole one Tecno C8 handset valued at N36,000, 30 pieces of clothes valued at N60,000, and one international passport valued at N35,000. Total value of stolen items N131,000 properties of Ndubuisi Ebube.
Ekundayo added that the defendant mobilized unknown military personnel on camouflage uniform to threaten the life of one Ndubuisi Ebube and also to attack the personnel of Nigeria Police Force attached to Agboju Police Station.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Ramotalai Morafa granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till June 18, 2019 for mention.
