Man faces N4.5m truck theft charge, gets N2m bail

A 35- year-old driver, Akeem Yusuf, who allegedly stole an articulated vehicle worth N4.5 million, was on Wednesday brought before an Ibandan Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Iyaganku.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Salewa Hammed, Yusuf and others now at large conspired to commit the offence of stealing on Feb. 12 at about 4.00 p.m. at Olorunsogo area of Ibadan on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.

Hammed alleged that the accused stole an articulated vehicle with registration no. LND 746 XF valued at N4. 5 million, property of the complainant, Sheriff Olatunbosun.

The offences contravened Sections 390 (9), (10a) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Abiona Richard, in her ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum, one of who must be a blood relation of the accused and must possess a national identity card.

The other surety must be a civil servant not less than Grade Level 10.

The case was adjourned until May 9 for mention.
