Man gets N100,000 bail for allegedly stealing N35,000 phone

An Apapa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday granted N100,000 bail to a 23-year-old man, Akaa Victor, for allegedly stealing N35,000 phone in Lagos.

Victor is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 11, 2019 at No 15, Water Front Estate, ICAN, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal a phone valued at N35,000 property of one Okafor Mercy Nneniya,” Ekpo said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Aisha Shittabey granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till September 2, 2019 for mention.
