Police arraign driver for stealing N226,400 from truck owner

The police on Thursday arraigned a 30-year-old driver, Silas Anaesiuba, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N226,400 from the truck owner.

Anaesiuba is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 5, 2019 at about 12pm at 202 Road, Festac Town, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal the sum of N226,400 property of one Edeh Osita,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Owoyemi Tiamiyu granted him N50,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till August 22, 2019 for mention.
