A 34-year-old man, identified as Mathias Richard, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing one truck driver on his stomach with a knife in Apapa.
Richard is facing a two-count charge bordering on threat to harm with knife and assault.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 2, 2019 at about 7:20am at No 7, Aminatu Street, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos.
“The defendant unlawfully, violently threatened and intimidated one Surulere Godwill with kitchen knife,” Inedu said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stabbed one Surulere Godwill on the stomach with kitchen which caused him grievous harm.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 56(1)(d) and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties should be a blood relation to the defendant.
He adjourned the case till February 4, 2019 for mention.
