Two men namely Mudasriu Akinpelu (37) and Ojo Mechack (38) were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N15m worth of diesel and petrol in Apapa.
The defendants are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Austine Ejembi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometimes in 2018 in Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together to steal 45,000 litres of AGO product, popularly known as diesel and 1,800 litres of PMS, popularly known as petrol, valued at N15m property of one Mr Moses Ajayi Sunday,” Ejembi said.
The prosecutor said the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Ayisha Grillo granted them bail in the sum of N5m with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must also be related to the defendants from the paternal side.
She adjourned the case till July 31, 2019 for mention.
