3rd-Morocco to build new port worth $685m

Morocco will invest MAD7 billion ($685 million) in the construction of the new energy port of Jorf Lasfar (NPJL), a report said.

Construction is scheduled to commence after completion of the technical studies of the port’s harbour works later this year.

The construction of the port is estimated to take five years, according to Aujourd’hui Le Maroc, the report said.

The ministry stated in Le Maroc’s report that “this strategy, which includes six port poles, aims to reinforce the port offer of the Abda-Doukkala region, which is able to fulfil the country’s needs by harbouring many energy traffic and hydrocarbons opportunities, particularly that of LNG liquefied natural gas and hydrocarbons.”

The new port will handle LNG transport in the first phase and will meet the needs of hydrocarbon traffic in Phase 2, the report said.
