A 23-year-old motorboy, Joseph Emmanuel, was on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of N40,000 with two sureties in like sum after his arraignment before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a lady’s bag containing phones, cash and bible worth N19,000.
Emmanuel, a resident of No 9, Bale Street, Orile, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 26, 2019 at about 6:30am at Mile 2 bus stop, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal one bag containing one Nokia phone valued at N8,000, one Itel phone valued at N5,000, one bible valued at N1,000 and cash of N5,000. Total amount being N19,000 belonging to one Mary Badamosi of No 53 Akintomide Street, Satellite Town, Lagos,” Ekundayo said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate O.R Williams-Isichei adjourned the case till June 4, 2019 for mention.
