The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) chapter of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) now has a new leader for the first time in a decade.
Otunba Michael Adekoya, who was vice-chairman, of the chapter was yesterday elected the new chairman.
He succeeds Engineer Fabian Okafor who has led the chapter since 2004.
Okafor was appointed sole administrator of the chapter and administered the affairs of the chapter for six years before he was elected to serve for another four years.
Adekoya had contested the chairmanship position of the chapter with Jerry Nwokedi and had won by securing 122 votes to Nwokedi’s 72.
Chief Isaiah Okonkwo emerged vice chairman with 124 votes defeating Etoo Nwailo who garnered 67 votes.
Elected unopposed as Secretary was Stanley Ezenga while the new Assistant Secretary is Chijioke Uzochukwu. Jude Okoye was also elected unopposed as Treasurer.
Chigozie Adindu was elected Financial Secretary while Ugorji Okwudili won the position of Publicity Secretary.
Rose Okorocha, Christopher Akpam and Simon Onyesoh were elected as Welfare Officer, Customs Agents Relations Officer, and Complaints/Discipline Officer respectively.
Speaking with SHIPS & PORTS DAILY, the immediate past chairman of the chapter said he was happy with the conduct of the election expressing confidence in the ability of the new chairman.
