The Nigerian Embassy in Benin Republic is set to open up the major borders connecting the two countries to improve trade relations between Nigeria and the neighbouring country.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Benin, Ambassador Emmanuel Oguntuase disclosed this in a chat with newsmen shortly after the presentation of his Letter of Credence to President Patrice Talon of Benin in Cotonou.
He said the move will commence with Seme Border, which is one of the busiest entry and exit points with the installation of ultramodern scanners to monitor and record movement of goods between the two countries.
The Ambassador said as part of moves to deepen the trade relations to make them beneficial to the two countries, the Federal Government in line with the ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme (ETLS) approved the procurement of equipment to easily monitor and record the volume of trade between the two countries.
Oguntuase tasked businessmen and investors in Nigeria to consider investing in Benin Republic – a country he described as a virgin land.
