Nigeria Customs Service Arrests Two Officers for Misconduct, Mistreatment of Civilians

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has arrested two of its officers for alleged misconduct and the mistreatment of civilians, underscoring its commitment to maintaining professionalism and accountability.

This development was announced during a press briefing on Tuesday by the Seme Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Kolade Kayode.

Represented by the Deputy Controller of Enforcement at the Seme Border, DC Istifanus Musa, Kayode confirmed that the officers, identified as Superintendent of Customs TA Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II GO Aboribo, are currently in custody and will be handed over to the Customs Police for further investigation.

“The preliminary investigation revealed the involvement of the two officers. They have been identified, arrested, and will be transferred to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation,” Kayode said.

He described the incident as deeply regrettable, particularly as it comes during ongoing efforts to reinforce the Service’s dedication to integrity and professionalism.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has strongly condemned the unethical actions of the officers. He has directed their transfer to the NCS headquarters for a thorough investigation and the implementation of appropriate disciplinary measures.

Comptroller Kayode emphasized that the actions of the two officers are not representative of the values upheld by the NCS.

“This incident serves as a reminder that misconduct will not be tolerated, and those found guilty of unethical behavior will face the full consequences of their actions,” he added.

The NCS has assured the public of its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and accountability as it takes decisive steps to address misconduct within its ranks.
