Police arrests fake council worker for extorting truck drivers in Apapa

Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have arraigned a fake council worker identified as Chibike Dick before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly collecting illegal tolls from truck drivers.

Dick is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, malicious damage, extortion and false pretence.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Olusegun Kokoye told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 7, 2018 at about 1am at Ladipo area of Amukoko.

Kokoye said, “The defendant paraded himself as a revenue collector attached to Ajeromi Ifelodun LCDA Amukoko, knowing same to be false.

“The defendant also conducted himself in a way and manner likely to cause breach of peace by forcefully collecting illegal tolls from truck drivers.”

Kokoye added that the defendant wilfully and maliciously damaged the windscreen of a DAF Truck with registration number FKJ 871 XV valued N60,000 property of one Abass Aboderin of No 10, Iludun Street, Amukoko, Lagos.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 412, 350, 168(d) and 78(d) of Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate A.O Awogboro granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one responsible surety.

The surety must produce evidence of tax payment.

She adjourned the case till March 19, 2018 for mention.
