Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has blamed importers for flooding Nigeria with substandard goods from China.
Ortom who has just returned from a three-week official visit to China, told newsmen in a chat in Makurdi that some importers usually requested for the manufacturing of substandard goods in order to make gains at the expense of the buyers at home.
“If you want to cheat, you arrange for substandard goods but the SON (Standards Organisation of Nigeria) is now here to check you.
“We have lost billions of naira because of substandard goods,” Ortom said.
