Nigerian stevedoring association changes name to NASO 

 

The National Association of Stevedoring Companies (NASC) has changed its name to the National Association of Stevedoring Operators (NASO), according to the President of the association, Bolaji Sunmola.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Friday, Sunmola said the change is name has been approved by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity.

“The change is coming at a time when we are opening a new vista with some of our stakeholders particularly the international oil companies. The change in the new name is borne out of reforms currently being experienced in the maritime industry,” he said.

Sunmola the association is also being repositioned for greater efficiency.

He said, “The significance of this name and logo change is to also lay emphasis, bring more into focus of who we are, what services we render and our chain of relevance and importance in the maritime industry.

“We are professionals in maritime cargo delivery operations certified by various international standard organizations. We are repositioning the association for greater efficiency and a more robust stakeholders engagement.

“Our operations span across ship-to-ship, ship-to-shore, shore-to-ship, midstream, onshore and offshore cargo delivery operations; not excluding other stevedoring and cargo related delivery services rendered such as cargo superintendence, gangway security, stuffing and unstuffing etc.”

The press briefing was also attended by other officers of the association including the Deputy President, Aliyu Bambado; Treasurer, Usman Abdullahi; and a Board Member, Atiku Musa, among others.
