NTA shuts Lagos centre as flood sacks Lekki, Victoria Island

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) network centre on Ahmadu Bello way in Victoria Island, Lagos, has been shut owing to the flood which accrued from the rainfall of the early hours of Saturday.

Major streets in the neighbourhoods of Victoria Island (VI) and Lekki were overtaken by flowing water, which left many people trapped in their homes, while vehicles found it difficult to move.

An official of NTA, who spoke off the record, said the office would remain shut till Monday.

“Our office has been shut because of the flood. Although the water has gone down now, the management has decided that for safety reasons, activities should be suspended until Monday,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Police Command has announced a closure of Ahmadu Bello way.

Spokespsman of the command, Olarinde Famous-Cole, disclosed this in a statement he issued on Saturday.

Famous-Cole advised motorists plying that axis to seek alternative routes.

“Due to the downpour of rain in the state, motorist plying route like Ahmadu Bello way in Victoria Island and other areas prone to flood which has caused traffic gridlock are advised to take alternative route made available by the traffic officials.

“This is because the flood in the area has caused us to temporarily block the road for safety.

“We would like the public to note that the relevant traffic and security agencies are on the ground to flush out the drains and thus secure road users in the state,” the statement read.
