The Oil Seed Processors Association of Nigerian (OSPAN) has decried the smuggling of finished vegetable oil into Nigerian through land borders.
In a letter of complaint to the Controller General of the Nigerian Custom Service (NCS), the President OSPN, Samaila Barau Maigoro called on the Service to rid the vegetable/cooking oil industry of the bio-terrorism and unpatriotic acts of agents who are taking advantage of the current recession-induced low purchasing power of customers.
He said, “We therefore wish to passionately appeal to the NCS to rise up to its statutory responsibility through an urgent intervention to investigate, arrest and prosecute the unpatriotic persons behind these illegal activities before they cripple the Nigerian domestic Vegetable Oil Industry productive capacity due to unfair advantage enjoined by the smugglers.”
