One dead, two missing as fire rages on chemical tanker ablaze off Hong Kong

A Vietnamese chemical tanker is on fire off Hong Kong following an explosion that has left at least crew member dead, two missing and 21 rescued.

In the latest in string of serious casualties since the end of 2018 the Aulac Fortune suffered a fire and explosion around 1 nm south of Hong Kong’s Lamma Island.

The Hong Kong Police said that one crew member had been killed while 21 had been rescued having jumped from the burning vessel. 

Two crew members remain missing and rescue and firefighting operations are ongoing.

A picture of the vessel posted on the Hong Kong Police Facebook page showed the vessel listing heavily with fire and smoke billowing from the cargo holds in front of the accommodation block.
