The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), says the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) by the Nigerian Customs Services has re-invigorated confidence among stakeholders and improved maritime revenue.
Mr John Ofobike, Western Zonal Coordinator of ANLCA said this on Friday, while fielding questions from journalists in Lagos.
He described PAAR as successful policy instrument that would enhance the operations of Customs.
According to him, the Nigerian Customs Services has leveraged their operations in line with global standards through PAAR.
“The NCS has improved its services by training its workers, improving incentives as well as promoting those who deserve it.
“The Customs under Abdullahi Dikko has done well in the implementation of PAAR,’’ he said.
The western coordinator, however, urged the custom management to ensure that its officers carry out their duties effectively.
He said that consignment should not be delayed if it meets the necessary requirement.
“Cargo should be allowed to leave the port immediately it has been cleared. We discovered that some consignments are still being delayed over pecuniary reasons,’’ Ofobike said.
He advised the Service to monitor activities of its officers to ensure that required standard are adhered to for quick clearance of goods and better revenue for the country.
