Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) have called on federal government to grant financial autonomy ‎to the management of government-owned refineries for effective service delivery even as they commended the federal government for reviving depots and other facilities.

The call was made by the Association’s Chairman in Kaduna Zone, Abubakar Mustapha at the Trienniel Delegate Conference held in Yola on Wednesday.

The union leader hailed President Muhammad Buhari for turning around refineries and depots as well as resisting pressure from some quarters to sell the refineries at a giveaway price.

He argued that with financial autonomy, the management of the refineries could have the ability to solve problems and carry out maintenance without delay.

“We therefore demand that adequate authority and financial autonomy be granted to the management of the refineries to boost operational effectiveness. This is to enable the managements to promptly and adequately service any part of the plant that requires attention without unnecessary delay,” he stated
