Police arraign four truckers for driving without license

The police on Monday arraigned four truck drivers before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly driving without license at Berger Cement, Kirikiri.

The truck drivers are Sodiq Mureni (31), Amuzat Akintayo (30), Muhammed Musa (22) and Riliwani Adeniji (25). They are facing a two-count charge of causing obstruction and driving without license.

The prosecutor, Inspector Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 7, 2019 at Berger Cement, Kirikiri, Apapa.

“The defendants, being the drivers in charge of Mack truck with registration number KTU 631 XX, Mack truck with registration number WDE 698 YE, Magus truck with registration number LSR 61 XR and Iveco truck with registration number AKD 162 XU respectively, drove same on the public motorway and caused obstruction to other road users,” Onaiwu said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants drove without drive license.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 40(3) and 36(6) of the Road Traffic Act, Lagos State of Nigeria 2012.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Magistrate O.S Abioye granted them N50,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till October 3, 2019 for mention.
