Police arraign man for stealing car brain box

A 20-year-old man, identified as Jibrin Yahaya, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the brain box and control switch of a Toyota Matrix car in Apapa.

Yahaya is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing and unlawful damage.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Raphael Donny, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 4, 2019 at about 10am at No 71/94 Idowu Street, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendant stole one Toyota Matrix brain box valued at N135,000 and two side control switch valued at N27,000. Total items stolen valued at N162,000 property of one Chinyere Udemba,” Donny said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant unlawfully damaged the driver door glass of one Toyota Matrix car valued at N15,000 property of one Chinyere Udemba.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 287 and 339(1)(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate G.O Tiamiyu granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case till May 28, 2019 for trial.
